Plan, Aim, Swing

In my many years as a golf professional, I have found only a few golfers who know how to play the game. Even some of the good golfers play by accident rather than by design. When the football or basketball coach says he has a game plan, he has a big inclusive plan and the smaller plans that make the big plan possible.

Hitting Down on the Ball

Golfers need to understand that in order to create backspin, trajectory and distance control the ball MUST be hit in a downward motion. To do this the club shaft MUST be leaning forward at Impact!


The average 5 iron has 8 degrees of forward built into it. If you look at Impact pictures of your player you will see that the hands are well forward of the clubhead and the shaft is, on an average, leaning forward 15 degrees! They have effectively turned the 5 iron into a 3 or 4 iron. No wonder these players hit the ball so far!

Golf in Orlando: Timacuan Golf and Country Club

On our last full day in Florida we had a chance to play another beautiful golf course, this one located about half an hour north of downtown Orlando in the community of Lake Mary. Timacuan Golf and Country Club was built in 1987 and was originally designed by a Ron Garl. In 1996 the course was renovated by architect Bobby Weed and today it is ranked in the top 14 in the state of Florida. Timacuan’s other accolades include having been chosen as one of the most golf-friendly courses for women by Golf for Women Magazine.
